From April 2025 - New Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for entry to the UK

The British government is gradually introducing a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) since 2024. From April 2025, this will also be a requirement for entry from Germany and other EU countries.

The ETA must be applied for online before entering the UK and can be completed either using a special app or directly via the official website. You can find all the relevant information and application links here: gov.uk - ETA application.

An approved ETA allows a stay of up to 180 days and remains valid for 2 years. It applies to all students entering the UK under the Visitor Route who do not require a Child Student Visa. Those who hold a valid Child Student Visa do not need an ETA – however, this does not apply to accompanying parents who require an ETA.

Please note: The ETA application can take up to 3 working days to process. It is therefore recommended that you apply for it in good time before departure. The ETA fee is currently £10 per application.
