Founder

Barbara Glasmacher founded the company in 1996. Her four daughters completed their IB diploma at Sevenoaks School, and her 12 grandchildren are alumni of Bradfield, Christ College, Christ Hospital, Haileybury, Kent College, Malvern College, Millfield and Oakham School, Queen Anne's School.
Barbara Glasmacher played a key role in introducing the International Baccalaureate at several schools in the United Kingdom.

Her motto:
A child's education is the best investment in life.

Today, the company is run by her daughters Theresa Glasmacher and Virginia Jakob.

Theresa Glasmacher

Managing Director

Theresa advises families with the enthusiasm and understanding that only someone who has experienced and loved the British boarding school system first-hand can offer. She knows the English school landscape like few others and is therefore able to find the right school for every family. Her families benefit from her excellent contacts with headteachers and admissions staff, as well as her in-depth expertise in the recognition of qualifications: When advising on subject choices, she ensures that all doors remain open for university studies in Germany and that a return to a German school runs smoothly, even after shorter stays.
Connection to England: IB diploma from Sevenoaks School; two sons with their own experiences of English boarding schools. Theresa knows the system from three generations and all perspectives.
Career: Following boarding school, she completed a banking apprenticeship and studied in London and Boston. She initially worked in the field of environmental and climate protection, including on the EU accession process for Poland, Hungary and Estonia. She has been with the family business since 2006 and has been part of the management team since 2013.
Personal: With her intuition and experience, Theresa makes the right decisions for every child. Her sense of humour opens doors, particularly with the British Heads. At the weekend, Theresa relaxes with her Labrador, at the piano or on the golf course.

Managing Director

As the daughter of the company’s founder, Barbara Glasmacher, Virginia runs the family business alongside her sister Theresa. She brings her many years of experience in the art sector and her own enthusiasm for the British school system to the company’s strategic development.
Connection to England: IB diploma from Sevenoaks School, where she discovered her passion for art and the British education system. Her twin daughters are currently gaining their own experiences at British boarding schools.
Career: Commercial training, art studies in the USA, many years’ experience in the international art industry. Now also active as an artist with her own studio in Wetzlar.
Personal: With her conceptual approach, Virginia keeps the company strategically on course and continuously develops the educational consultancy with her keen sense of tradition and trends.

Tanja Berelsmann Tanja Berelsmann Halftone

Tanja Berelsmann

Tanja advises families with great empathy and a deep understanding of the dynamics involved in a stay abroad. As an expert in recognition issues, she navigates the requirements of German school authorities with confidence. She always keeps her finger on the pulse and knows exactly what schools expect today.
Connection to England: Was herself one of the first pupils that Barbara Glasmacher placed at a British boarding school. A-Levels at Frensham Heights School. Tanja knows the system from every angle and has practically grown up with Glasmacher School Consultancy.
Career: Studied Cultural Studies, Italian and French in Manchester, Strasbourg and Frankfurt/Oder. Taught German as a foreign language in Berlin and Uganda. Part of the team since 2010, applying her extensive expertise to support students, parents and partner schools.
Personal: With her compassionate nature, Tanja ensures that all families feel understood and well looked after. Through her own two children, she brings valuable experience of everyday family life as well as expertise in the field of Special Educational Needs. Tanja recharges her batteries on family bike rides or finds peace through meditation.

Cora Bredl

Cora carefully guides families through the application process. No question, however detailed, is too much trouble for her, and as a mother of a son, she understands the big and small worries of parenthood from her own experience.
Connection to England: Her love for Great Britain began in childhood during family bike rides to London and was deepened by numerous trips and stays abroad.
Career: Studied American Cultural History and Communication Studies. Many years of consultancy work in her own family business; joined the Glasmacher team in 2022.
Personal: The Munich native in the team loves the Bavarian way of life with its traditions and the proximity to the mountains. Cora is also a rock in the office and, with her composure, always keeps her cool even in stormy times.

Monika Domokos Monika Domokos Halftone

Monika Domokos

Monika supports families with boarding school applications and guides hundreds of pupils through the wide range of summer schools and language course options. With her reliable and highly efficient approach, she ensures that no question goes unanswered and no deadline is missed.
Connection to England: Over 20 years’ experience in supporting boarding school applications and arranging language courses and summer schools in the UK. Knows the programmes, schools and requirements inside out.
Background: Studied Business Administration with a focus on tourism. Monika speaks six languages and therefore understands from personal experience how valuable international language courses are. Part of the team for over 20 years.
Personal: Whether it’s interview preparation, travel planning or joining questions, Monika has the answer ready before you have to ask twice. Her photographic memory and quick thinking make her a highly competent point of contact. Of Hungarian descent, she is a passionate dancer of Argentine tango.

Helen Fürnthaler

As a native born British citizen, Helen brings a genuine enthusiasm for the British school system and inspires families to look forward to England from the very first contact. She provides support with all organisational aspects of a boarding school stay and keeps everything under control, so that families can relax. With her, nothing is overlooked and every step is taken at the right time.
Connection to England: Raised in the north of England, she studied German and Romanic languages at the University of Oxford and completed postgraduate teacher training in Cambridge. After nearly 20 years in Munich, she knows both the British and German school systems from personal experience and can explain the differences and unique features first-hand.
Career: After completing her degree at Oxford and her postgraduate teacher training in Cambridge, she came to Germany to teach English. She has been part of the Glasmacher team since 2019
Personal: As the mother of two very sporty sons, Helen understands perfectly why families value the wide range of sporting activities offered by English schools so highly. Internally, her keen eye ensures high-quality standards across all processes. She draws energy and joy from playing the piano and the Bavarian mountains, and brings this vitality to her consultancy work too.

Ursula Hilger Ursula Hilger Halftone

Ursula Hilger

Ursula has been the organisational heart of Glasmacher since 1999. As office manager and personal assistant to the management, she uses her expertise, efficiency and organisational skills to ensure that all processes run smoothly and that the advisory service is fully prepared to assist families.
Connection to England: With over 25 years’ experience of the processes, structures and partner schools at Glasmacher, she is an indispensable expert on all matters relating to British boarding schools.
Career: Having studied social education and sociology, she has been part of the team since 1999 and has played a key role in shaping the company’s development and providing organisational support.
Personal: Ursula often remembers families and children by name and their personal characteristics years after their placement. She loves mountaineering and is always at the ‘summit’ of the organisation in the office, ensuring that everything runs smoothly.

Maja Kegel Maja Kegel Halftone

Maja Kegel

Maja guides families through the application process with a level of empathy and dedication that is second to none. She provides such thoughtful support with organisation and school selection that families find their ideal school practically effortlessly.
Connection to England: Already as a teenager at the UWC of the Adriatic in Italy, where she completed the IB, she experienced the enriching benefits of an international school education. She recently searched for suitable boarding schools in England for her own daughter and therefore understands the parents’ perspective first-hand.
Background: Raised in Croatia, she studied German and English in Italy. With her Croatian-Italian background, she has found a third home in Munich and has been bringing this international perspective to the Glasmacher team since 2023.
Personal: Maja usually has a good sense of what is right for a child, but always shares her assessment in a respectful and discreet manner. This approach, combined with her empathy, makes her a valued trusted advisor. In her private life, she is a mother of two, plays tennis, attends classical concerts, goes jogging and takes long walks with her poodle.

Barbara Kirchner-Kádár

Barbara advises and supports families through the application process with her warm and charming manner. Her empathy and intercultural sensitivity make her a valued point of contact, including for families from Hungary.
Connection to England: Born in Hungary but raised in England. Attended school in London and studied law at Cambridge. She found suitable boarding schools in England for her two daughters herself and therefore knows the British system both from a parent’s perspective and from personal experience.
Career: After completing her studies, she initially worked in law firms and in recruitment for lawyer professions. Having moved to Germany over 20 years ago, she now works in educational consultancy and brings her legal precision to all processes.
Personal: Barbara lives and works in Munich, but regularly holds information sessions for interested families in Budapest. She combines precision with warmth, kindness and a subtle sense of humour, making every consultation both professional and pleasant.

Kirsten Kornweibel

Kirsten brings her many years of experience and structured approach to the company's financial department in her current role. After many years in day-to-day operations, she has largely stepped back from that work and now ensures, behind the scenes, that all financial processes are managed reliably and with an eye to the future.
Connection to England: Her daughter spent a year at a British boarding school. The family also lived in Chile for several years, so Kirsten knows the challenges of ‘children and school abroad’ from personal experience.
Career: Studied business administration. Multilingual and with nearly 30 years’ professional experience, she brings great precision and a keen eye for detail to her work.
Personal: Beyond her day-to-day operational duties, Kirsten is committed to ensuring families feel well looked after. Her great passions are travelling and outdoor sports in the mountains, where she recharges her batteries.

Since 2015, Patricia has been supporting our boarding school applicants with great care and attention to detail. She keeps a close eye on deadlines, requirements and documentation, and ensures that our information and databases remain reliably up to date.
Connection to England: The English language became Patricia's second mother tongue at some point. Her enthusiasm for English literature and culture has been with her for many years and also shapes her keen understanding of the British school context and its particularities.
Career & Skills: After completing her studies, she joined Glasmacher and has impressed ever since with her remarkable composure and organisational skills.
Personal: Patricia works quickly, in a structured manner and with great precision. Her calm demeanour, reliability and dry sense of humour make her a highly valued point of contact for families and colleagues alike.

Victoria advises families on finding the right British boarding school, from the first orientation to successful enrolment. She is the ideal person to contact, particularly when it comes to visa matters.
Connection to England: IB diploma from Sevenoaks School; four children, all of whom attended British boarding schools. Victoria knows the system from both sides.
Career: Commercial training; degree in political science; many years’ experience in educational consultancy and communication projects in business, academic and NGO sectors.
Personal: Victoria consults families from her base in Berlin and remains calm and optimistic even in tricky situations.

Isobel Poland Isobel Poland Halftone

Isobel Poland

Isobel joined the Glasmacher team in September 2024. Having successfully completed her degree in German Studies and Linguistics at the University of Warwick, she brings not only new expertise but also a breath of fresh air to the team, thanks to her youthful, dynamic nature and her keen eye for languages and cultures.
Connection to England: Born and raised in the UK, Isobel attended school in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Having been through the school system herself, she has first-hand knowledge of British schools and the education system, including subject choices.
Career: She gained her first teaching experience at a school in Kiel before joining the Glasmacher team in 2024. With her background and expertise in the British education system, she provides expert support to families on all matters relating to boarding schools and application processes.
Personal: Active, curious and always on the go, whether jogging in the English Garden, playing tennis or at the gym. Isobel brings her energy and sense of humour to her work in a focused way. She is particularly popular with our students for her interview practice, in which she realistically simulates admission scenarios and charmingly helps to ease their nerves. Her openness, enthusiasm and cheerfulness make every conversation with her lively and enjoyable.

Carolina Schweitzer

Carolina advises families in the Bonn, Düsseldorf and Cologne areas, drawing on her extensive intercultural experience and a keen understanding of different educational pathways. Her own international background and her children’s educational journeys give her a particularly nuanced perspective on the wishes and needs of families.
Connection to England: Born in Buenos Aires, raised in England. She spent her final five years of schooling at the renowned girls’ boarding school Wycombe Abbey. Her two children obtained their IB Diploma at Charterhouse.
Career: Many years of international educational experience; has worked as an educational consultant for Glasmacher since 2015. Lives and works in Bonn/Bad Godesberg.
Personal: Carolina combines cultural openness with great reliability and calmness. Her consultancy is characterised by experience, clarity and a keen eye for the individual needs of every family. Her charm and subtle wit are always present.

Nathalie von Stackelberg

Nathalie joined the team in the summer of 2022. After taking some time out to focus on her family, she has returned to work with great enthusiasm and motivation, bringing with her many years of experience as a career changer.
Career: Having originally worked in tourism and later in event management, she has around 20 years’ professional experience in project management, organisation and the coordination of complex processes. She turned her passion for travel into a career at an early stage.
Connection to England: Following the very positive boarding school experiences of her two children, she is now a convinced supporter of British boarding schools and their holistic education.
Personal: Nathalie approaches new tasks with openness, structure and great enthusiasm. Her organisational skills and her love of long-term projects make her a valuable support for our families throughout the entire application process.

Andrea has been supporting families in finding the right British boarding school for 25 years. With her empathy and solution-focused approach, she guides parents through every stage of the application process, always keeping the child’s best interests at heart.
Connection to England: A quarter of a century of experience supporting countless families. Andrea knows the schools, the Heads and all the key contacts, and understands exactly what matters. As a mother of a son herself, she understands the parents’ perspective very well.
Career: After graduation, she gained many years’ experience in the top-tier international hospitality industry and has been part of the team since 2001. This combination makes her a service expert with a special flair for understanding families’ needs.
Personal: Andrea’s enthusiasm for her work is catching. Every family is equally important to her; she is just as excited about every place offer as she was the first time. Her honest and open-hearted nature builds trust. It is no surprise that she is regarded as the ray of sunshine in the office, drawing her energy from Italy and its warmth.

Annette is the first point of contact for all enquiries regarding entrance exams for British boarding schools. With her warm and engaging manner and attention to detail, she guides families confidently through the entire application process, sharing their excitement every step of the way, from the initial consultation right through to the start at their chosen school.
Connection to England: Having been part of the team since 2002 and having supported countless families, Annette has a solution ready for almost any situation. She is also personally familiar with the British boarding school system, as her son attended an English boarding school himself.
Career: After working as an au pair in the USA, she completed a commercial apprenticeship and subsequently moved into educational consultancy.
Personal: For Annette, there is no problem that cannot be solved, and her wealth of experience makes even complicated situations easier to handle. In her private life, she finds balance in nature – whether jogging, mountain climbing or by the lake.

Jackie Williams

Jackie has been advising families on all aspects of boarding school life for over 25 years, drawing on her extensive experience, versatility and that famous British sense of humour. She has been a highly valued member of the Glasmacher team since 2007 and guides families with confidence and clarity through the diverse landscape of British boarding schools.
Connection to England: A graduate of the renowned Durham University, and prior to that, the Badminton School, where she gained many years of boarding school experience. She therefore knows the British school landscape first-hand, both as a student and as the mother of a child at an English boarding school for a term.
Career: Many years’ experience in educational consultancy and part of Glasmacher since 2007.
Personal: Always intellectually active, whether in improvisational theatre or creative writing. Jackie’s subtle humour, her openness and her experience shape her consultancy work and make every conversation lively, clear and trusting. She often knows just what to do, particularly when it comes to tricky questions, as she likes to think outside the box.
